Magazine Advert Draft 1 and Feedback (Harry + Charlotte)
Feedback
I feel you could make this link to the video more - it would not sell me the album. Take photos linked to the music video and make it a little more creative
The font has made it look quite childish and quite basic - consider changing the font
Use the research you have done to inform your product
Record Label info should be at the bottom of the advert
Does the image have to take up the whole page? Again, link it to your music video and digipak
We will use this feedback by making the changes you have suggested as we all want to get the highest mark possible for our magazine advert
Digipak Draft 1 and Feedback (Harry)
Feedback
Please add in another 2 frames - make it a six section digipak
The writing down the spine is the wrong way round and is too big for the spine
Again, change the font
Use the research you have done to inform your product
There is too much sky
I do not get the photo of the park!
Link it to the narrative of the video - having a good time!
You need record labels etc on the bottom of the track listing, like real media products
We will use this feedback by making the changes you have suggested as we all want to get the highest mark possible for digpak

Music Video Rough Cut 3 and Feedback (Harry)
Feedback
A good variety of shots
The video tells a narrative clearly at the start
Good use of jump cuts
Still doesn't feel quite like a music video

Music Video Rough Cut 2 and Feedback (Harry)
Things that work well
Your narrative start off well and builds up quite nicely, but you need to push it further
The performance section is a little more dynamic
Things to improve:
Wobbly camera on sink section
some shots are too long - maximum of 3 seconds for this song really
Charlotte has her lanyard on in the lip syncing
Michael is not singing into the microphone
The visuals could relate to the lyrics more
Lip syncing is out in the second section
Framing needs to be considered more
Why is Callum still in it?
We will use this feedback to make improvements on our work, specifically the areas that are mentioned in the feeback. We are going to solve the issue of the lanyard by re filming the recording studio scene to make sure we have got good continuity. We will rectify the lip syncing issues by using the apple macs to make sure we can get it as spot on as possible.

Music Video Rough Cut 1 and Feedback (Harry)
Feedback
Positives
Some shots are held steady
The editing at the start is much better than the end
Even Better If
Lip syncing was correct - it is completely out - who is Michael?
Remember there is a girl singing the song too! You need a girl lip syncing
There were more people at the party or Callum and Charlotte are just doing fun stuff together
The narrative needs to be clearer - show Callum and Charlotte meeting up and having fun doing loads of different stuff - there needs to be more variety of things involved - running through a field, at the park etc
Need different locations - too much based interior
The visuals matched the lyrics!
Shots were shorter!
More content
From the feedback we have been given above, in order to successfully improve our music video, we will need to act upon it. To do this, we are going to re-film the lip syncing scene of our music video along with adding more sections with Callum and Charlotte having a "good time" (e.g. running through a park, playing on the swings etc.)
We are also going to ensure that we shorten the shots in our music video so that it will feel more like a conventional music video. We are also going to film again but in different locations, namely a park and a green playing field.

Final Scouting Locations for all 3 products (Charlotte + Harry)
Location 1: Charlotte's House
We used my house as the setting for the first part of our music video, and also to shoot pictures for our digipack. We spent time looking over the setting and decided that it would be suitable for the products.
Digipak
For our six panel digipak, we are going to use a variety of shots to show them having a good time doing lots of different things. We are thinking of shooting in Great Leighs park and Chelmsford city centre to get photos of them having a "good time".
We used my house as the setting for the first part of our music video, and also to shoot pictures for our digipack. We spent time looking over the setting and decided that it would be suitable for the products.
Location 2: Samuel's House
We used Samuel's house as the setting for the second part of our music video. After discussing the location over a group chat and viewing images Samuel posted we decided it would be a suitable location.
Location 3: Recording Studio, Eastman Building
We filmed the lip syncing scenes for our music video in our schools recording studio and also shot the pictures for the magazine advert.
Location 4: Great Leigh's Park
We used this as a location because there is a lot of items in this park that we can use to show our two actors having a good time.
The reason we chose these locations is that for the main part of the music video we will be showing our two actors having a "good time" and what better place to do it than a park because there's so many activities you can do in a park and this would link about what's being sung in the song. We chose the two houses as an introduction to our music video and the recording studio is being used to show the artist singing the song which is incorporating a performance element in our music video.

Magazine Advert
To link with the digipak and music video, we are going to get a photo in this park (pictured above) of both of our actors having a good time playing on one of the items that is shown in this park as it links with digipak and also links with the song name "good time" because there having fun on swings.
The reason we have chosen these locations for the digipak and magazine advert is because these locations link in with what is going on, during the music video and it's important to establish a key link between the music video and the ancillary products.

Final Props Information (Harry)
Headphones
We are using this prop to show the artist in the recording studio
Microphone
We are going to use the microphone for the artist to sing into while he is performing the song

Football
We are going to use a football in our narrative part of the music video to show how Michael and Charlotte are having a "good time" doing loads of different activities.
These props will help show our narrative because the football will help us visually show what is going on in the lyrics and the headphones and microphone will help portray the artist.

Final Costumes information for all 3 products (Samuel)
Character 1: Narrative_Girl
Black jeans, Converse trainers, Black scoop shoulder top, Blue tartan t-shirt
Character 2: Narrative_Boy
Black leather jacket and t-shirt
Character 3: Performance_Boy
Blue shirt, Black leather jacket, Suede trousers, Brown boots
We have chosen these costumes for our actors to wear because in our view, this is what we think teenagers would normally wear and therefore, to suit our target audience of young people, we are going to have our actors wear these costumes.
The final chosen costumes for the digipak and magazine advert are exactly the same as we are going to take photographs for our digipak and magazine advert when we are on location and are filming for our music video.

Lighting Notes (Samuel)
When we film in the recording studio, the lighting we will use is high key lighting because high key lighting denotes happiness, excitement and elation and all of these emotions feature in the music video and the song is upbeat and the high key lighting in our music video will reflect this. There will also be low key lighting in our music video to reflect deeper emotions that are shown in the video.
For most of our music video, we will be utilising natural lighting so that we can effectively portray the narrative which is based around a boy and a girl having a "good time", this will consist mainly of the two characters playing together in a local park. We will be using high key lighting when we go to film the lip syncing part of the video in the recording studio, this will help to make it easier to see the actors' faces in the music video.

Ideas For Magazine Advert (Harry)
Harry
Charlotte
Samuel
These are our ideas for our magazine advert, Two of us have gone with the ideas of having the magazine advert reflect the hit song of the album which is "Good Time" where as the other person has gone with the artist as a form of exposing the artist and the bands songs at the same time. The ideas we will take from these are the record label, "featuring hit single" and the picture of the artist as this is most doable considering it will be very hard to take a picture like the other two. We will combine all of the magazine adverts by using features fromall of them such as the logos used and the fonts used.

Ideas for Digipak (Harry)
Harry
Charlotte
Samuel
Here are the digipaks our group created, the ideas we will take from this is certainly having the artist feature in the digpak as well as displaying all of the right songs and having big text to make the album name and artist stand out. When we came to our final decision we decided to incorporate the best bits from all of our digipaks so we used picture similar to Charlotte's digipak to show them having a good time and we chose to have the artist on the cover as shown in my digpak (Harry) and we chose the layout of Samuel's digipak as we thought this would be the best combination.

Location Scouting (Charlotte)
Locations:-Setting 1
Charlotte's House
Rooms used: Attic bedroom, living room, bathroom maybe.

-Setting 2:
Samuel's house
Rooms used: Bedroom, stairway.
-Inside of a car (Maybe)Charlotte's mothers car.
-Setting 3
Recording studio at CVHS
These locations will help with our song as they will be showing how the actors are having a "good time". Location Scouting will help with our music video because we will know where to go which will make filming on the day much easier because we know where we're going.
We have chosen these locations because it will allow us to portray our two characters having a "good time", for example, in the recording studio, the two actors will be singing to the song thus having a "good time". The two house locations have been chosen primarily because it will help portray the two friends getting ready to go out and have a "good time".

Props Information (Charlotte)
In our music video, we will be using the following props;
Firefly jar
We will be using a fake firefly jar prop to add lighting to the scene and give it a free, cheerful atmosphere.
Fairy Lights
We will be using fairy lights in some scenes to not only add lighting, but to show that a scene is cheerful due to fairy lights being associated with cheerful, bright places.
Phone
Both of the characters in the narrative will have a phone that will show them communicating with other people and help move the narrative along.
Record Player
Our music video will have a record player in it to show where some of the diagetic sound is coming from. It will not actually play music as we will be editing the music in, but it will make the scene look more realistic.

Costume information (Samuel)
For our music video, we need to identify specific costumes for our actors / actresses that will suit and complement the video and lyrics.
All of our actors will be wearing teenage-style clothing, this will include a t-shirt, jeans and some trainers. Our main character will be wearing a leather jacket along with a plain t-shirt, jeans and trainers. The reason for this choice of costume is that we want to relate our video to our target audience which is teenagers and if the artist in the video is wearing clothing that is similar to what teenagers wear, they will be able to relate to the video and it will seem similar to their own style of clothing.
On the left is how we would visualise our main artist to be wearing a leather jacket. We think that a leather jacket will portray our main artist in the way that we're looking for because it will make them look like an authentic music artist.
Another reason for which we have decided to have our artist wear a leather jacket for our music video is that it is a durable because if you do loads of activities having a "good time", the jacket will not be liable to being ripped because leather is a tough material, as opposed to a fleece or hoodie which is easily rippable.

Rough plan for music video (Harry)
This is our rough plan for our music video, this is a very brief plan of what would happen in the music video, with the music video being split into three stages, the timings on the sheet are for how long each set of lines is, which will help us when it comes to editing as we will know the timings so we can decide where footage should be going. This will help us when it comes to making our own music video as it gives us a basic plan of what to do if we are stuck.

Group Research into Music Videos by Our Chosen Artist (Group)
Music videos by Owl City tend to be upbeat because of the song and in one of the videos which is "Good Time" this features a whole lot of friends driving to a beach house and having a big party at this venue which is upbeat. Although the lyrics to "Fireflies" are about his insomnia, the song still manages to sound upbeat when listening to it especially when you watch the video which features the artist Adam Young playing a piano while various toys are coming alive around him. However Owl City aka Adam Young has also done a song called "Vanilla Twilight" which is completely different to his other songs as he could be singing about the death of his wife or girlfriend because the song starts with "The stars lean down to kiss you" showing that she is being taken away.
One of Owl City's most common features in all of their music videos is that they all feature the artist themselves as Adam Young features in all of the music videos. In Owl City music videos, Adam Young is always shown playing himself in them and never plays any other character than himself.
Group Research into Chosen Artist (Group)
Our chosen artist is Owl City who is also known as Adam Young. In 2007 while he was living at his parents home in Owatonna, Minnesota. He started making music in his parents basement with a computer and a few instruments because he was plagued with his insomnia and his irregular sleeping patterns, this led to him creating songs that related to the genre electropop and after he had made a song he would then upload the song to MySpace for everyone on their to listen to. This is where he gained a lot of attention because lots of people were enjoying his songs. One song in particular "Hello Seattle" led to Owl City/Adam Young getting his first record contract with Universal Republic Records in 2008 because of his MySpace song.
He has released five albums including Ocean Eyes which went platinum with RIAA and ARIA as well as going gold with BPI and MC. One of the singles on that album, "Fireflies" went to number one in the UK singles chart and it also went number one in the US Billboard top 100. Having knowledge of the artist will help us when it comes to creating our music video because we will know how the artist likes to portray himself and others in his music videos.

Your Favourite Music Video and Why (Whole Group)
Your Favourite Music Video and Why
(Harry) The above music video is my favourite music video because not only is the music good the music fits in time with the editing of the music video. The narrative is hilarious and it involves a group of ducks going in to the city and chasing after some gang members after they nicked an old ladies purse and one by the one the ducks get there revenge and then at the end the main gang member and main duck face off and the duck runs straight through the gang member. Apart from this great narrative the fact that it is ducks chasing them makes it ten times better.
(Samuel) This music video by Queen is my favourite music video because I really like the 80s' style game being played. The narrative is rather interesting and involves a young boy who is playing an 80s' game and a man that appears to be invisible, hence the song title, who runs around the house which is within the game that the little boy is playing on his computer.
Analysing these music videos has helped us because we have seen what makes them a really good music video and we could include things from their videos and incorporate them into are music video like putting in a good, clear narrative.

Representations in Music Video (Charlotte)
The main representation of our music video is teenagers, as our video focuses on 3 teenage characters and their narrative. They are shown in a positive way, as all of their actions are presented as new, fun and interesting, and even when they do things wrong it is presented as endearing and relatable. Like many films targeted at teenagers, our narrative focuses on teenagers having an adventure and rebelling against older characters, focusing all their attention on things like fun and romance and doing what they want to do rather than what is sensible. They are presented as the heros of the narrative, and this representation makes any teenagers that watch the video feel complimented by the video and may even want to replicate the actions of the teenagers in the video. Since our main target audience is teenagers and young adults, this helps us cater to them and makes them like the video more.
The actions of the teenagers are also compared to the actions of older characters, with the actions of the older characters being presented as boring and/or tedious and making the actions of the teenagers look better comparison. This distinction presents older characters as bad and younger characters as good, and puts a focus on youth being better than age, and while this does alienate any older people that may watch our video, it will further entice teenagers with a rebellious attitude that intentionally go against older people, and will make them relate more to the content.
The main reason for which we have decided to represent the teenage social group in our music video is that we believe that teenagers are rebellious and will do whatever they want irrespective of the consequences.

Plot and Narrative work for the Music Video (Harry)
Plot
In our music video two people get ready and go to a party where they have a "good time" which is the name of the song by Owl City.
Narrative
The narrative of our music video is that we follow two people who are getting ready for a party and then we show them at this party having a "good time" and then towards the end of the song, it shows the two people leaving after having a "good time". Throughout the choruses of this music video, it will be sung by the artist in a recording studio.

Target Audience Brief for the music video (Samuel)
What is a target audience?
A target audience is a particular group at which a product, in this case a music video, is aimed at. Typically, target audiences are split into age ranges, for example, teens, young adults, middle-aged people, retired people and elderly people. This allows the creator to specifically choose a certain type of audience to direct their music video at.
The target audience for our music video of "Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen - Good Time" is young adults and teens, people aged between 13-26 years old. The class of the people within the music video will be middle and lower / working class. Our video will appeal to our target audience through the adventurous nature of the video. The demographic that our music video will be aiming towards is demographic D who are the working class, as we feel this is the demographic that most relate to what is going on in the music video and who will be a good target audience for us.
We will be implementing an audience theory in our music video, we will be using a few characteristics of Goodwin's theory within our music video which will include links between lyrics and visuals and links between music and visuals because for example, the song and the lyrics will be out about people having a good time and our music video will be based on two people who are having a "good time" doing various things like playing in a park and other similar things.

Two friends meet up and go to a variety of places and show they have a good time wherever they go!
Initial Ideas for Music Video (Harry)
Initial Ideas for Music Video
For our music video we had decided on three different songs to choose between, the three songs we had to decide between were Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These), Calvin Harris' Acceptable in the 80s and the other song was Owl City's Good Time. As a group we decided on Owl City's Good Time as it was a song that we all liked compared to the others where some of the group didn't like the songs.
We chose the electropop genre because it was a genre we all liked so it would be easier to work with as we all like the genre and songs. This will help us when it comes to making our own music video because it will help us come up with ideas as we all like the genre.

Music Video Target Audience Questionnaire Results Analysis (Samuel)
The purpose for this post is that it allows us to analyse the results we have gathered from the questionnaire which we gave to a few people in our target audience.
The first question in the questionnaire was "What is your gender?" We proposed this question to our respondents to get an idea of whether male or female people participated in the questionnaire. 3 out of the 4 respondents were male and 25% of our respondents were female. We noticed that 75% of the people asked were male so we thought that we should definitely try and target males in our work.

We also asked our respondents "Have you heard of the genre Electropop?" Out of the 4 respondents, only 1 person was not aware of the Electropop genre whereas 3 out of the 4 people asked responded Yes to say they had heard of the Electropop genre.
Another question that we posed to our respondents was "Have you heard of these Electropop bands?" All of the respondents had heard of La Roux apart from one person who did not. Only one person had heard of the Electropop band "Kraftwerk" and only two people had heard of 'The Human League'.
We decided to ask our respondents "Have you heard of the band Owl City?". The main purpose of this question was to find out whether they knew about the band or were aware of the band. Out of the 4 people that we asked, 75% said that they have heard of Owl City and only 1 person said that they had not heard of Owl City.
The final question that we asked our respondents was "Have you heard of these Owl City songs?" We asked this because we wanted to gauge the amount of people that are aware of the listed Owl City songs. Out of all of the people that we asked, everyone said that they had heard of the popular song that goes by the name of "Fireflies". Two people had heard of the song that we are creating our music video on "Good Time". Finally, only one person had heard of both "Vanilla Twilight" and "Hello Seattle".
We will use the feedback from our audience in our music video by responding to this feedback and aiming at our target audience in the music video.
